Massage in Midtown East, Manhattan

A foot massage at U Beauty & Foot Spa costs $35 for 30 minutes and $55 for 60 minutes, at 146 E 55th St, 2nd Floor, Suite 2B, New York, NY 10022 — East 55th between Park and Lexington, second floor. We're open every day, 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, and walk-ins are welcome for all twelve of those hours.

That price isn't a promotion or an off-peak rate. It's what an hour in the reflexology chair has always cost here, four blocks from Bloomingdale's and two minutes from the 51 St platform. Most of Midtown charges between $120 and $145 for the same hour. This page is the index to everything we've written about the neighborhood — the best-value sessions, the late nights, the walk-in reality, and the couples room — plus the whole menu, the subway directions, and the arithmetic behind the gap.

No appointment needed. If a chair is free when you come up to Suite 2B, it's yours.

What an hour costs here, and what it costs four blocks away

Ours is the whole menu, in one table, with nothing held back for the phone call. Sixty minutes of reflexology is $55. Thirty minutes on the back is $38. The couples room starts at $110 for 70 minutes.

Compare that with what the neighborhood publishes for the same hour of foot work. Several of the studios nearest us — Dyanna, ila Only Spa, Grand Central Bodywork — don't publish a price at all, so the figures below come only from the ones that do.

Couples pricing is the widest gap on the whole street. ZZ Day Spa lists $259 to $319 for a couples massage in Midtown Manhattan and Bangkok Fortune lists $300 to $600 depending on length. Ours opens at $110.

Couples pricing is shown exactly as our booking system lists it. Call (212) 347-7878 and we'll confirm what's per person and what's for the pair before you book.

Late, and open to the street

Until 9:30 PM, seven days, no appointment

Midtown East empties out at seven and most of its spas close with it. ila Only Spa on Madison shuts at 8 PM. Dyanna closes at 8 PM on weekdays and 7 PM at the weekend. Grand Central Bodywork takes appointments only. We're here until 9:30 PM every night of the week, Sunday included, and the last sessions of the day go out well after 8 PM at the same price as the ones at noon. There's no evening surcharge, because there's no evening rate.

Walk-ins are the normal way people come here. You come up to Suite 2B, we check what's free, and if a reflexology chair is open you're in it inside of five minutes. Weekday evenings between 6 and 8 PM are the busiest stretch — that's the office crowd coming off Lexington — so if you want a specific length or the couples room at that hour, a call ahead saves you the wait. Everything else, just come up.

Massage is one of the better-studied ways to take the edge off everyday tension. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes it as generally safe, with modest evidence for pain and stress relief — not a treatment, and not a cure. That's the honest frame we use on every page in this cluster.

What the room is like

A small studio, not a spa day

Foot massage here is the Chinese style: a hot herbal soak first, then thumb and knuckle pressure through the sole, the arch, the heel and up into the calf. Trousers rolled to the knee, no oil on your clothes, no robe, no locker room. Back work happens on a table behind a curtain — neck, shoulders, the whole desk-and-commute set. Tell the therapist your pressure at the start and adjust it any time; nobody here minds being told to ease off.

The combination sessions are what most regulars book. Thirty minutes in the chair and thirty on the table costs $60 and covers both ends of a long day. The 70-minute hot stone runs $110. A deep cleansing facial paired with back work starts at $80. Two people fit side by side in the couples room, one booking at a time, from $110.

What an hour in that chair is for, stated plainly: Mayo Clinic lists massage among the relaxation techniques worth trying for everyday stress, alongside breathing work and progressive muscle relaxation, and is equally plain that it belongs beside medical care rather than in place of it. Coming down for an hour is the claim. We don't make a bigger one.

New York State licenses massage therapists through the NYSED Office of the Professions, and the title is LMT. You're welcome to ask about credentials when you arrive — we'd rather you asked than wondered. If you have a question we haven't answered here, the FAQ covers the practical ones, and the story of the studio covers the rest.

From the journal

The longer reads

The neighborhood pages tell you where and what it costs. These take the time to explain what's actually happening to your feet — and where the evidence runs out.

All five sit in the journal. General wellness information, not medical advice.

Before you come over

Midtown East questions, answered

What is the cheapest massage in Midtown East at U Beauty & Foot Spa?
A 30 minute foot massage at $35, hot herbal soak included. Thirty minutes on the back is $38. Those are the counter prices, the same for walk-ins and online bookings, every hour we're open.
Do you take walk-ins?
Yes, every opening hour, 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, seven days a week. Come up to 146 E 55th St, 2nd Floor, Suite 2B, on East 55th between Park and Lexington, and we'll tell you what's free. The one exception is the couples room — there's a single one, so that booking is worth a phone call first.
How late are you open?
Until 9:30 PM every night, Sunday included. The last hour-long sessions start around 8:20 PM. There's no evening surcharge: 60 minutes of foot reflexology is $55 at nine at night and $55 at ten in the morning.
Which subway stop is closest?
51 St on the 6 is two minutes away and Lexington Av/53 St on the E and M is three. We're on East 55th between Park and Lexington, second floor, Suite 2B. Grand Central is a ten minute walk up Lexington.
Do we need to book ahead for a couples massage in Midtown East?
Yes, we'd suggest it. There's one couples room and one booking fits in it at a time, so Friday and Saturday evenings do fill. Couples sessions run 70 minutes from $110. Call (212) 347-7878 or book online.
How long a session should I pick?
Thirty minutes is a top-up — feet only, in and out on a lunch break, $35. Sixty minutes at $55 is the length most people settle on. If your feet and your back have both had it, the 30 and 30 combination at $60 covers both ends of the day.
